DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUND

See what lies beneath the surface.

Ultrasound is a non-invasive, non-painful, tool that uses sound waves that travel through soft tissue and reflect back sound waves that the machine then interprets as images on a screen. The images are in grayscale and the interpretation of the images requires the ultrasonographer to have an extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

At most other facilities, a non-physician sonographer performs the ultrasound and captures images that are then sent to a radiologist to interpret.

Dr. Black performs the ultrasound and interprets the image in real time! The benefit of this, is that Dr. Black can perform a dynamic evaluation (where movement of the problem area is viewed). Dynamic ultrasound is especially helpful when there is a popping sensation or pain only with certain movements.

Dr. Black has extensive training and expertise in using an ultrasound to diagnose conditions beneath the skins surface. Accuracy of ultrasound diagnosis is dependent on the clinician. Dr. Black has thousands of hours of use both in training and in clinical practice with using an ultrasound.

Ultrasound is excellent for use in diagnosis of area(s) of dysfunction within the soft tissues (eg. muscle, ligament, masses, tendon, fascia, cartilage, nerve). Ultrasound can be used to identify problems around joints, but cannot penetrate (form an image) of structures behind bone.

Dr. Black is 1 of 2 physician in Nebraska with the RMSK® certification!

What is the RMSK® certification?

“The Registered in Musculoskeletal® (RMSK®) sonography certification raises the standard of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging worldwide and promotes best practices for enhanced patient safety. By earning the musculoskeletal ultrasound certification, physicians and advanced care providers gain a critical edge in promoting public safety in musculoskeletal ultrasound. These practitioners come from a variety of musculoskeletal ultrasound training background, but share a common goal of improving the practice of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.”
